Students create a crossword that can be used for peer or self-assessment. This is a student-led activity that encourages students to synthesize the content and information they have learned so far.

Introduce the activity and the learning intentions. Set the students up in their groups, pairs or working independently (depending on the needs of your class).

First step for students is to identify between 15-30 keywords or key terms relating to a topic (this can vary depending on how much time you have and the ability level of your students).

Then students must create clues for each keyword or key term.

Students must create the crossword itself, using a paper and pen (using box ruled paper) or if students have access to a laptop or computer they can use free online crossword makers such as https://crosswordlabs.com.

Students can keep their crossword to use for self-assessment at a later stage or can swap crosswords with another student to test their knowledge.
